There are lots of nice old bridges like this on the stretch of canal between Loughborough and Barrow. If you go down on a weekday, it’s common to travel the whole stretch without seeing another person, which is always a joy.
Loughborough itself isn’t the most attractive of towns, so it’s gratifying to be able to escape into some proper countryside with about 10 minutes cycling.

I went out at lunch to try out my new tripod (Manfrotto Pro 055XPROB) - I threaded it through the loop on the top of my rucksack and set off on my mountain bike down the canal near where I live. The thing kept hitting me in the back of the head when I went over roots and stuff, but it’s worth the pain because it’s so much more adjustable than my old cheapo tripod.
I took a few pictures around this bridge - I’m not 100% happy with any of them, but this is the best of the bunch I think. The clouds are a touch indistinct for my liking, but I like the curvy shapes that abound. I’ll return to the area again to try and get some better pictures.
I’m experimenting with taking more shots for my HDRs at the moment - I’ve found that if I adjust the camera so that the wheel moves in half stop increments, I can get a 9 shot HDR pretty quickly, by setting the AEB to -2,0,+2, and sliding the wheel by 12 stops between batches of 3 images. It’s looking OK I think, but I probably have to choose my battles a little better.

This is the bridge the M48 thunders over, just east of Chepstow. I really enjoy driving over this one - you can, as you can see, get right underneath it too. It’s an amazingly imposing construction.
I should return and try this again at some point now I am a little more adept - this picture was taken only a couple of months after I got my first DSLR, and it would have really benefitted from being in raw and some bracketing. I don’t think I’d be lucky enough to get the complimentary line of the fog bank again though.

This is in a nature reserve southeast of Edinburgh. Lovely windswept place full of birds and sand dunes. This bridge is actually right next to a car park near a main road, but something about it demanded a picture.

I couldn’t resist this shot - the lights on the water and the colours were almost too good to be true.
This building in on the Seine in the middle of Paris, between the Eiffel Tower and the Isle de Cite. I didn’t know at the time that it was a department store - I should go in next time, it’s an amazing looking building.
This picture was taken from the top of some steps leading down to the bank of the river, whilst I was being jostled by a constant stream of drunken revellers from the music festival on that weekend.

This was taken on a recent weekend in paris - the Fête de la Musique was on (a street festival where there are bands playing all over paris) so the streets were thronged with people. Took us two hours to fight our way back to the hotel from a restaurant near the Pompidou centre.
I got this pic by balancing my tripod on a short wall next to the seine and managing to stop passersby knocking it into the river.
